Franciscan School of Theology

We are an accredited Roman Catholic graduate theological school and seminary that prepares women and men for professional ministry and careers in theological education in Church and society.  We specialize in the delivery of the Franciscan Intellectual Tradition to the contemporary world.  In our multi-cultural community, we welcome people of all nations, lay and religious, on sabbatical or wishing to enhance their knowledge of Christian faith and the practice of ministry. We are located on the 54 acre grounds of historic Old Mission San Luis Rey, founded by the Franciscan Friars in 1769.   We participate in a curricular and service affiliation with the University of San Diego that makes available to our students the combination of advanced degrees in theology with expertise and certificates in global education, justice and peace, non-profit work, secondary education, leadership studies, and other professional fields.  Combining prayer, academic rigor, and community, we try to embody the Franciscan vision of Christ that invites all people into relationships based on equality and respect for one another and for all creation. Number of students at FST: 40; degree programs:  2 year Master of Theological Studies; 3 year Master of Divinity; a Certificate in Priestly Formation; and a Certificate in Franciscan Studies.
